wedding dress finale

remember this wedding dress i was helping a friend refashion (here and here)?
well, the time came and the dress was finished and not only do i have pictures of the dress in action- as promised- but i also have pictures of the original dress! ahhh! so let's look at this dress' life....

some time ago, this was my friend's mother-in-law's wedding dress. and can i just say i love it?! almost as much as i loooove her hair :)

so it hung in a closet for a couple of decades and one day resurfaced and was tried on by my friend.

we immediately started chopping it up

it was a little sad because it had such an awesome life but we both knew we were giving it a new life. and without a pattern, we have a bit of a challenge hahaha

but the day came, many years later, and the dress looked fantastic

 then

 now

love love love :)

February 22, 2012

it's almost here....

so, i have been helping a friend refashion her wedding dress.
it's pretty stellar
this last appointment, we did the top and since we met on a monday everything went wrong. hahahaha i think we cut one of the sleeves four or five times before getting it right

gotta love not using a pattern....

but it is turning out pretty rad

and i love me a scalloped edge...

i am so excited for them to get married and to see this dress all done up!

oh and their photographer is a babe ;)

what projects do you all have going on out there? i want to hear about them!

2012....the year of weddings

if your name is kevin and you took abnormal psychology with me two years ago at ucsb, you may not read further

so in case you haven't noticed, my husband is a photographer. specifically, a wedding photographer.
and for some reason, this year has already been incredibly full of weddings, including wedding crafts!
but recently i was asked to help with the most important and probably difficult craft involving weddings

the dress

my friend gena is getting married in february and i am so excited! ah! she is basically my sewing fairy godmother
and i was even more excited when she asked if i could help her with her dress

um yes always
i will always help
always always always

so we have had a few sessions and i finally got around to taking some pictures of what we have been up to

it's really cool because it is actually her fiance's mother's dress. lady had style, let me tell you

with lots of lace and satin.....

it is coming along quite nicely. talk about refashion.....this is going to be amazing!

but i can't show you what it looks like! you will have to wait until the wedding :)

have a great weekend!

feeling lace-y

hey, don't forget the giveaway winner is posted here

i really like lace. seriously, adding a piece of lace to anything suddenly makes it ten times more feminine.  hence, my love of this headband

however, i do not like pink. and it is 17 smackeroos. srrrsly? no way. i'll just take some scrap lace make a better one. that is also way cheaper :)

this is so easy, you guys. so easy. no sewing machine needed even. all you need is
a piece of lace
needle
matching thread

1. fold the ends over and sew a wide stitch. pull the thread tight to ruche the thread and make a knot

 2. take a piece of embroidery floss (all six strands) and tie a knot. then stitch from one side to the other, and take the excess length and make a knot at the end

3. repeat on the other side

4. tie. you're done :)
and you know what is great about this headband? it is feminine, cute, and pulls the hair away from the face and makes it easier to do...just about everything it seems

can i just tell you a quick story about that little brown mole on my lip? you know, the one on the left side right there in the picture?

well, it has been there my whole life. and it is a mole. however, when i am in public and eating chocolate or any other brown food (aka brownies) everyone around me feels a need to inform me of the chocolate stuck to my lip

i have no problem with someone saying "hey, you have chocolate on your lip right there," because that is nice. but this is usually how the conversation goes:

person: you have chocolate on your lip right there
me: oh, thanks but it is actually a mole
(it should end here)
person: no, really there is chocolate on your lip
me: no really, it is a mole. see?
then i have to rub my mole at some stranger
some people have even repeated saying that there is something on my lip until i use spit to try and rub it off.
does this happen to anyone else? because i feel like this cannot be just me...hahaha

anyway, go find a scrap or piece of lace and push that hair back from that pretty face of yours :)

have a great monday!
